When they arrived at Citeaux near Easter 1112 there had been no new novices for several years. Stephen Harding, the Abbot welcomed him with open arms. From the start Bernard trained himself to obey the command he later gave to all postulants: “If you desire to live in this house, leave your body behind; only spirits can enter here.” |
